From the time you wake up you think about it
and start contemplating your day
with no idea which way to go
just hoping things go your way
looking up and down the street
trying to find a fix
be satisfied with ten dollars,
maybe eight, even six
to some people it's a habit
or maybe an addiction
but without it, your life is full
of confliction
everyone do it in their own way
just trying to survive another day
some people do it without
moving a muscle
don't let your mind run wild
it's all just a hustle.

I Kept Thinking

A week and a day was all I knew
and I kept thinking
what was he going to do
treat me so right until I fall in love
But this is just a dream I'm thinking of
And I kept thinking; this is it
finally I can sit back and feel content
Love he gave to me each day
Until he started to fade away
And I kept thinking
though the phone calls was few
until I realized
their is nothing I could do
So I live on without tears of weeping
but for some strange reason
I kept thinking.

I Thank You

At times when I lied, you stayed true
I have to say I thank you
When I thought I couldn't make it
you pulled me through
I have to say I thank you
for the gift of words
and the knowledge to know
for the people in my life
who come and go
for me knowing my wrong
so I can make it right
and giving me the strength
to write through the night
So many things I know I could do
and because I know I say thank you

The Good Ole Days

SoulTrain, The Scene, The Jackson Five
these are the memories I keep alive.
A dime could buy you a candy
and a dollar could take you very far.
From Red light; Green light
to Mother May I
The Good Ole Days has passed us by
When things go wrong in the world today
I get on my knees and start to pray
and though, we accept life
for the good and bad ways
I still long for the good ole days.

Dreams

You reach and you reach but you just can't seem to touch
and each and everyday you want to give up
the closer you see it; the further it seems
but we have another day to reach our dreams
some call me a dreamer I say i'm blessed
because their are people
who haven't found their dreams yet.
a writer I am but name unknown
but I'll keep trying until the lord call me home
and when I die the label will be
"A Dreamer she was"
but a writer to me.

When I get out

You sit on the porch and drink your wine
I'm using every minute of my time
stay up all night and scream and shout
I'll see you when I get out
you stay here while I move there
go ahead and act like you don't care
you say you're stuck and left behind
I say you can do it if you find the time
no matter how long or hard it seems
I have to stay focus on my dreams
but I'll come back without a doubt
and try to help you when I get out
and if you're ready you can come with me
and you'll realize you were always free
to work hard at being your best
and put all those cliches to rest
but if your'e not ready, I'll wave goodbye
just don't regret and start to cry
so when you read of my where abouts
remember I offered
"When I get out"

Precious Time

We'll meet again but until then
always remember you are my friend
but I must move on
to go get mine
and not take for granted
                                precious time.
